Cricket's three formats and popular tournaments

T20

Twenty20

The fastest format. Each innings is just 20 overs, so runs, wickets and results can change very quickly. BPL, IPL and the T20 World Cup are all played in this format. It is the most popular format among Bangladesh supporters and has the most active betting markets.

ODI

One Day International

A 50-over match where both strategy and patience matter. The ICC World Cup is played in ODI format. These matches offer more opportunities to bet on markets such as top batsman, total runs and run rate. Bangladesh Tigers' World Cup matches receive the most attention in this category.

TEST

Test Cricket

The longest and most traditional format, played over five days. A draw is a possible result, which creates three separate markets. Session betting and total innings runs are also popular. Test betting suits those who prefer a deeper analysis of the game.

BPL, IPL and International Tournaments

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is Bangladesh's biggest franchise tournament. Teams made up of local and overseas players compete, and tk1917 offers multiple betting markets for every match in the tournament.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is also hugely popular among Bangladesh supporters. With the world's best players taking part, a large number of markets are active for every match. Betting is also available on the T20 World Cup, ICC Championship and bilateral series.

Betting at tk1917 is not limited to cricket. Football — especially European leagues and the FIFA World Cup — also draws a lot of interest from Bangladeshi fans. The key difference between cricket and football betting is that cricket offers far more intra-match markets (per over, per wicket), while football markets are generally more goal-based.

6 popular cricket betting markets

The rules and approach for each betting market are a little different. The most commonly used markets are explained in plain terms below.

Match Winner

The simplest market — you bet on which team will win. Example: in a match between Team A and Team B, you pick Team B. If Team B wins, your bet wins; if not, you lose. This market is most active in T20 format.

Available in all formats

Toss Winner

You bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. The outcome is entirely 50/50 and has no connection to match performance. This is a standalone market that closes as soon as the toss is done.

Before the match starts

Top Batsman

You bet on which batsman within a team will score the most runs. Example: from among the batsmen playing for Team A, you pick the one you think will score the highest. Batting form and pitch conditions play an important role in this market.

Popular in ODI and Test

Total Runs Over/Under

The bookmaker sets a specific run line (for example: 165.5). You bet on whether the total runs in the match will be higher (over) or lower (under) than that number. Pitch reports and weather conditions help when deciding on this market.

Available in all formats

Multi Bet (Accumulator)

A method of placing a single bet across multiple matches or markets at the same time. All selections must be correct to win. Example: you pick three teams across three T20 matches — if all three are correct you win, but if even one is wrong you lose the entire bet. The risk is higher but so is the potential return.

Across multiple matches

Innings Runs Over/Under

Instead of the full match, you bet on the total runs in a specific innings. In Test matches you can bet on the first and second innings separately, and in T20 you can bet on powerplay runs in the first 10 overs. You need to consider which team is batting and the current pitch conditions.

Especially in Test and T20

How to read and understand odds

tk1917 supports three odds formats — decimal, fractional and American. Below is the same bet shown in all three formats.

Odds Format For Team A to win For Team B to win (favourite)
Decimal 2.50 1.50
Fractional 3/2 1/2
American +150 -200

Worked Example 1 — Team A to win

Decimal 2.50 = Fractional 3/2 = American +150. If you stake ৳1,000 and Team A wins, your total return is ৳2,500 (৳1,500 profit + ৳1,000 original stake). If Team A loses, you lose the full ৳1,000.

Worked Example 2 — Team B (favourite) to win

Decimal 1.50 = Fractional 1/2 = American -200. American minus odds show how much you need to stake to win ৳100. Here, a ৳1,000 stake returns ৳1,500 if Team B wins (৳500 profit).

Decimal odds are the easiest

Decimal odds are the easiest format to understand. Multiply your stake by the odds to get your total return. tk1917 shows decimal odds by default, but you can choose your preferred format from the settings.

Fractional and American

Fractional odds come from British tradition, where the top number represents profit and the bottom number represents the stake. In American odds, a plus (+) sign indicates the underdog and a minus (−) sign indicates the favourite.

Betting is entertainment — there is no guarantee of profit. Play responsibly. For ages 21 and above.

Live Betting — odds change every over

Live in-play betting is one of the standout features of tk1917's cricket section. You can place bets after a match has started, and the odds shift in line with what is happening on the field. Every wicket, every big shot and every change in run rate is reflected in the odds.

Say Team A scores only 25 runs in the first five overs of a T20 match and loses two wickets. Team A's odds to win will naturally rise (meaning you get more return for a smaller stake) because their chances of winning are considered lower. But if Team A then scores 60 runs in the next five overs, the odds will start to drop again.

To bet in this dynamic environment, you need to watch the match closely and be ready to make quick decisions. Keep in mind that odds change fast, so take a moment to think before each bet. In a complex game like cricket, live betting adds an extra layer to the entertainment.

Live betting through the tk1917 mobile app is especially convenient — you can watch the match and place bets from the ground or anywhere on your smartphone.

What happens when a wicket falls?

When an important wicket falls, the bookmaker assumes the batting team's overall chance of winning has decreased. As a result, their odds to win go up and the bowling team's odds to win come down. In the final overs of an innings, if a high run rate is still needed, the odds shift even further.

Powerplay Overs and Death Overs

In T20, the first six overs (powerplay) and the last four overs (death overs) tend to produce the most runs. Live odds fluctuate the most during these periods. These phases are worth paying particular attention to in the total runs over/under market.

Rain and the DLS Method

If rain interrupts a match, the target is revised using the DLS method and many live bets may be suspended or voided. In such situations, bets are settled according to tk1917's betting rules.

Betting on Football and Other Sports

Alongside cricket, you can also bet on football at tk1917. Markets such as match winner, both teams to score and total goals over/under are available for European leagues, the FIFA World Cup and AFC Championship matches. The key difference between cricket and football betting is that cricket has far more innings- and over-based markets, while football markets are comparatively fewer and more straightforward.

Betting is also available on tennis, basketball and other international sports. Visit tk1917 Bet to see all sports markets and ongoing events. If you are interested in baccarat or roulette at the live casino beyond sports betting, that is available at tk1917 too.

Some practical tips for cricket betting

  • 1
    Set a budget first
Before each betting session, decide in your mind how much you will stake. Betting is for entertainment — it is best not to bet more than you can afford to lose. Reading the responsible gaming guidelines is a good idea.
  • 2
    Start with one format
If you are new, start with the T20 match winner market. It is the simplest and you get the result quickly. Move on to other markets gradually as you become familiar with them.
  • 3
    Compare odds
Comparing odds across different matches in the same market helps you understand which team is considered the favourite. Higher odds mean a lower probability, but also a higher return if you win.
  • 4
    Be careful with multi bets
Multi bets offer higher returns but getting every selection right is difficult. In a three-match multi bet, if all three are not correct you get nothing. For beginners, placing single bets is the better approach.
  • 5
    Be patient with live betting
It is better not to rush into bets during live betting. Waiting a little mid-match gives you a clearer picture and makes it easier to decide. Avoid trying to chase losses out of frustration.

Multi bet example

Pick three teams across three T20 matches with decimal odds of 1.40, 1.50, and 1.90 in a multi bet. The combined odds would be 1.40 × 1.50 × 1.90 = 3.99 (approximately). On a ৳100 bet, if all three are correct you get back ৳399. But if even one is wrong, you lose the full ৳100.

This example is for illustration only — it is not a reflection of live odds or a guarantee of winnings.

Cricket Betting FAQ

Yes, they are different. T20 offers the most markets — runs per over, powerplay runs and death over markets are all available. ODI has a moderate number of markets, with innings-based markets being most popular. In Test cricket, the match winner market has three possible outcomes (Team A wins, Team B wins, draw), and session betting is also available. Live betting is available across all three formats.

Generally yes — core markets such as match winner, toss winner, total runs over/under and top batsman are available in BPL too. However, international matches (especially ICC tournaments) tend to have more markets because of the higher level of global interest. Live betting is available in both cases.

If a match is cancelled or left undecided due to rain, most pre-match bets are refunded. However, if the match concludes via the DLS method and a minimum number of overs have been completed, settlement follows the official result. Rules may differ slightly for live bets. See the Terms & Conditions for details.

Decimal odds are the simplest format. Multiply your stake by the odds to get your total return (including your original stake). Example: Team A's odds are 2.50 — if you stake ৳1,000 and Team A wins, your total return is ৳2,500 (৳1,500 profit + ৳1,000 original stake). The fractional equivalent is 3/2 and the American equivalent is +150. If Team A loses, you lose the full ৳1,000.

In cricket, live odds can update after almost every ball. Odds shift quickly after a wicket falls, a big six or four is hit, or at the end of an over. Sometimes bets may be temporarily suspended right after an event occurs and then reopen at new odds. This is why live betting requires the ability to make fast decisions.
